Change in Plans 7/12/2021
Where is the Love - Black Eyed Peas
This is the final major change in my project plan that I'll probably make, mainly due to the fact that the coursework deadline is now getting way too close. I needed to change my Music Video to one that requires less people in one shot, as the previous plan, Riot Van, meant that I would need a group of friends (as well as people to act as the police) all gathered together for filming. After various attempts to secure a day for filming altogether, I found that my efforts were futile and not nearly enough people could show up for me to film my music video. Because of this, I'm scrapping my plan to make my Music Video around Riot Van, and instead will be using "Where is the Love" by the Black Eyed Peas.
Black Eyed Peas released the song "Where is the Love" in 2003, in response to the 9/11 attacks back in 2001. The song addresses and vocalises a spotlight on terrorism, racism, and hate, all of which are still prominent problems within today's America, and prove the song could be utilised to a great extent in helping me produce a relevant and developed Music Video. For the production of this music video, I will include live performance of the songs lyrics, as well as inserting real footage from the Black Lives Matter protests (as the protests were very recent, and sparked a gigantic change in American society, which was caused due to hate.

The button below directs to a video of my first Music Video draft for "Where is the Love". This video contains only the inserted videos of existing footage on the Black Lives Matter protests. All sections of the video which are completely in black are where I intend to insert footage of live performance.
Finalized Cast Profile
Displayed below are images of each of the main appearing cast members. These members are Daryll, Adham, Gabriel, and Damaq. To examine an overview for each member's role, hover over their picture to reveal a body of text which describes their purpose in reasonably lengthy detail
Constructing my music video
Within the production of my music video, there was a process which I had to follow in terms of acquiring footage and producing my video. The found footage which I utilised within my music video, was accessed through news coverage of the Black Lives Matter Protests on YouTube. I also used portions of old footage from my Everlong project (e.g. the guitar riff overlay at the start of the music video) in order to add more complexity to my music video.
The intro to my music video was formed through inserting a handful of found footage from the Black Lives Matter protests (news coverage and civilian recordings), and placing live footage of my guitarist over it. The live footage of my guitarist was made semi-transparent, through adjusting its opacity within Adobe, and the audio of both sections were completely cut and replaced with the song. I used no transitional effects within the section of news coverage, as I wasn't looking to complicate the intro too much. However, because the translucent Guitar footage stays constant, the cuts feel smoother and less jumpy for the viewer. The text that appears on this intro is placed in order to identify the video as my artist's work. The entirety of the music video has been produced on Adobe Premiere Pro, as this software has been provided by the school and is highly efficient in producing stellar pieces of film. My found footage has been arranged in a montage-like style, and the cuts to different pieces of footage are purposely done to take place in beat with the song (as fluidity within the music video will appeal to the viewer and further retain their attention). The first set of footage concludes as the lyrics begin.

Change in Plans 30/11/2021
I've made another change to my project, as I feel that it would be much better (and easier) to work around a different songs' lyrics in comparison to Everlong. Because of this, I have chosen to change my Music Video's song to Riot Van, by Arctic Monkeys. The song allows me to make my Music Video much more narrative driven rather than live performance. Trying to work around Live Performance has costed me too much time and effort, and as the deadline for this project nears closer and closer, I feel that I have to make a change in plans. With Riot Van, I feel I can do a lot more outdoor filming around the streets and suburbs (which is useful as that's where I live). I will also film the music video in a way that makes the viewer feel like they're part of the main characters story, through filming with a moving handheld camera rather than a static tripod camera. The music video will be set during the night, and I will have more people acting within my project. There will be people acting as teenagers on a night out (these will be the band's members), and there will also be people acting as policemen who apprehend the unruly teenagers (these will either be adults, such as my parents, or other students at my school.

I feel that Riot Van is essentially a story from Alex Turner, about a fun night out which escalates into them being arrested and beaten down by the police. The fact that the songs lyrics are structured in a way which clearly states what's happening within each part of the song mean that I can personify the song effectively and create an atmosphere which I feel accurately depicts what Alex Turner was thinking about when producing the song. The good thing about switching from Everlong to Riot Van is, since both Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters are alternative rock bands, I don't need to alter too much of my existing work.

Change in Plans 22/11/2021
As of 22/11/2021,
I've made a major change in terms of what my Music Video is going to be, and everything within this task page which ISN'T located within this text is from my previous Music Video plan (In which I was planning to produce a video for the original version of Everlong). As of now, I'm creating a Music Video for the acoustic version of the song, as working with the acoustic version makes life far more easy in terms of producing the video and arranging filming schedules. |
The Main Cast Profile for my video solely consists of Adham and I. This is because the acoustic version requires a guitarist, and a vocalist. Adham is amazing at the guitar, and has actually learned the music sheet for Everlong, so that makes him a viable candidate for the video. I know the lyrics to the song by heart, so I trust myself to recite the lyrics accurately for the video.
The link above will take you to a folder containing all of my footage regarding the production of my Music Video for the acoustic version of Everlong. More specific information regarding my production can be found in the BEHIND THE SCENES JOURNAL page of my Main Task's production.
Major inspiration for my acoustic video can be seen in Extreme's "More than Words", one of my favorite music videos to exist. More than Words only uses acoustic and vocals, however, since Extreme is a rock band, they still follow the visible codes and conventions of a conventional Rock Artist (seen with their clothing, hairstyles, and body language). I've also taken inspiration from their music video's mise en scene, emphasizing the idea of an empty room and bored performers. A notable difference will be the tone of my video in comparison to theirs, as mine will be far more somber, where More than Words is relatively romantic.
|
|
The primary equipment that will be utilized within the music video are an acoustic guitar, a couple chairs, artificial lighting, and any other items that are present within the set, in order to add to the scenery and atmosphere of the video. I will incorporate a black and white filter into the video, in order to set the tone of a relatively somber music video, and frequently cut from shots of the guitarist to shots of the vocalist. I may also add transitions to different locations in order to add variety to the music video's setting.

VIDEOLOG
I've gone through the process of recording literally every single thing I do during the production of my music video. Recordings as mundane as bringing equipment into the film sets all the way to the actual recording sessions of my music video's scenes can all be located here. There are also test photos to see what angles work best when filming the video, as well as behind the scenes spoofs to prove that I actually have a filming crew.
